Breaks, Oil, and Photographs

I have a friend who does amazing three item titles for her blog posts. She does it much better than I do.

Yesterday on the way to my writing group my breaks started sticking after I needed to stop suddenly in highway traffic. And I need an oil change, so I called my preferred shop. I called twice before I got through, and then they asked to call me back. A half hour before they closed they finally returned my call, so they must have been quite busy. (I’m not complaining, just noting.)

I wrote a bit – 167 fiction words that I need to completely rearrange this morning and 446 total words. I didn’t get much editing done, but I did get a coupon for a 50% off coupon for a stock photo subscription.

I’m torn. I could totally use the subscription. Right now hiring a cover designer is outside of my budget, but $50 for 300 images, assuming I remember to get them all in time, is exactly inside it. But Spot (my car) will need breaks, or at least something caliper somethingorother. Last night I think I had settled on not ordering the images, but now I’m double thinking that again. Because that’s what I do! Analysis paralysis for the win!

In case there was any doubt, that would be me (and Junior Youth), and it would be because I found a new novel to chew through and it’s a lovely Cinderella story. A Kiss at Midnight, it’s called, by Eloisa James. The Cinderella character is angry, and talks back to her step-mother, and I love it. She’s snarky.

Yesterday was Junior Youth’s orchestral concert with the elementary, middle school, and high-school orchestra. 300 kids from 6 schools (our district has 4 elementary schools) that had gotten together for the first time only two hours before the concert to rehearse.

They did a lovely job.

I only wrote (as a result) 128 fiction words (and 556 total). I did some editing on 001, read a little less than 39% of my book, watched more YouTube than I should (Alyse from Raw Alignment did something clickbaity and was upset when everyone called her on it, then changed the title of the video and posted an apology – I think she should have stuck with it and addressed it next time quickly with no apology), and…I think that’s it. (Now Grammarly is going to tell me that’s an unnecessary ellipsis. Grammarly, why don’t you love the ellipses? They are all unnecessary to you!)

Today is Tuesday, and I look forward to traditional Tuesday activities, through this sleepy haze I’m still trying to operate under.  That’s all I can think of, for now. Bai!

Ta-da!

Today is here! It is Friday. It shall be the best Friday this month has had in 2017, I just know it!

I observed this morning that if I want to keep waking at 5 a.m. in the morning, I’m going to need to haul my butt to bed earlier than 10:30 p.m. I have a feeling I’ll need a nap by the time the day is over.

Yesterday I wrote 1,469 words of fiction (1,773 total). They’re good words, and I thought I was done with 003, but it turns out I’m not. There’s a little rounding out to do at the end, I think. Maybe. It’s entirely possible it’s not the short story I thought it was, but a longer piece. I’m not sure.

Today, aside from Friday, is the day a friend needs tons of positive thoughts, so if you care to throw them at the blog, I’ll then shove them in that friend’s direction. Thank you.

Before the storm

Yesterday was productive, with acquiring of bookcases (5-shelf, quantity: three), grocery shopping, money, watching Arrival, also watching 2012, and lots of positive thinking.

I wrote 217 words just under the wire before I went to bed, and made 417 words total. And, since it’s Monday, I also get to spam you with numbers about last week!

Weekly total words: 5,889
Weekly total fiction words: 4,058
Weekly total blog words: 1,831
Difference from last week: 45%
Weekly rank: 4 (of 11)
March fiction total: 5,690
February fiction total: 9,217
January fiction total: 18,615

I’m motivated seeing those monthly totals. January was a darn good month! I’ll make March that good, too. Today feels like a good day to write.

Good morning, Sunshine

Mornings when I can wake up by 5 a.m. when I’ve gone to bed by 11 p.m. the night before always feel so damn productive. I only wrote for a half hour, but I got 600 words already this morning, and I’m pleased. That will probably set the mood for the entire day, and I’m grateful for that.

This past weekend, although I’ve already shared a lot of it, was incredibly productive. I walked a lot on Saturday, not only reaching my step goal but my stairs goal as well of 10 flights. It seems like such things should be easier since I live in a 2-story home and work in a building with two levels, but I don’t often get the stairs goal. I also did a lot of driving, got a new set of tires for the car, ran errands (although not the grocery shopping), and was generally busy both days.

Looking ahead, I have a feeling the next few weeks will be the same. There will be lots of moving things, driving, walking, stairs…lots of opportunity for exercise. If I think about it that way, perhaps it won’t seem as much like work.

So words! I did not have a great writing week, but despite an all-time low (for this year) of 14 words, I wrote every single day, and I’m grateful for that. Here are the numbers:

Weekly total words: 3,782
Weekly total fiction words: 1,770
Weekly total blog words: 2,012
Difference from last week: -43%
Weekly rank: 3 (of 4)
Average weekly words: 4,052
Difference in average words from last week: -7%

I’m focusing on the fact that I wrote every day, and not that I wrote less fiction this week than I wanted my daily goal to be at the beginning of the year. I’m going to work up to that. I really am.

Pack animals!

So I’m trying to squeeze this post in quickly before I need to leave for the morning. The post title refers to my WIP (work in progress) – 001 (Space Cats from Space Earth). I think I’m getting close to sorting out what the real problem is, although I still don’t know what the problem is to the brothers in my story. (Four of them.) I’m sure it’ll come to me soon.

Yesterday I managed 394 blog words in two posts, and 369 fiction words. When I told my daughter I wish my story was going faster so I could get to the publishing point faster, she told me then I should write more.

That is, of course, exactly what I need to do.

So far this year I’ve written 7,161 fiction words and 2,870 blog words. That’s a bit over 10,000 words total, and I’m pretty proud of that. It’s 4,000 more words than I had last year at this time, and now looking at those numbers, I think I need to combine my tracking into one file so I can easily compare last year to this one.

Yay, numbers!

Hopefully everyone has a fabulous day, and they get lots of what they want to accomplished.
