Still on vacation

30 fiction words, 255 total words

Yeah, I may be physically home but my brain isn’t yet with me. I flaked on writing yesterday, and today too, it looks like. Still, the job is to report the good and the bad, and so that’s what I’ll do.

30 fiction words, 255 total words

I got both regularly scheduled blog posts done, and that feels good.

Yesterday was mostly a day of relaxing with the family anyway. We were all at home, reconnecting with the kitties. Some grocery shopping happened yesterday, too.

Today was just plain hot. I did laundry (probably should have done it yesterday but really wanted to spend the day with family), got some bank stuff done, and sweat. And bought some photo memory boxes for me, my grandma, and daughter. I’ll be sticking pens and desk supplies in mine. This should come as no surprise. (They were on sale for $2 each.)

Well, at any rate. I’m going to go read a blog or two more before bed. Maybe word some. Tomorrow, I might work on publishing. I think I’ve gotten everything set for A Brief History, although I’ve not talked about it for a while, and it’s probably way past time to get that up for sale. That, and there’s another story that needs a title, a cover, and some editing. Time to sow the field a bit more. Can’t have a harvest without planting.

Ah, hell. I left a plant in my car. Hope it’s not dead.

And I’ve made it back!

We had a lovely vacation and got to catch up with lots of family. Because there were two drivers, I had some time to write. (Although I didn’t really write a lot.)

1,516 fiction words, 1,894 total words, 8 days

I did do photo blogs every day, I didn’t bother with other blogs. I did write a bit over eight days, but that number really looks better as a daily total, don’t you think?

I also got an Idea over vacation. My idea is that soon, although I’m not sure how soon, I will start handwriting a novel, basing the idea off the cover of the journal that I’m going to write it in. I would like to write the entire story inside the covers of the journal, without running out of space or leaving a lot of blank pages.

Whether I publish or not (because I would have to retype it) or whether it just sits on my shelf as one of those novelty things (the cover of the notebook I’ve chosen is quite lovely by itself) is still up in the air. I may wait until November to do this, or I may not.

Exciting ideas from vacations!

This week I’ll be away from the blog for a bit. I’ll write fiction, and I’m going to try to do a photo post daily, but most of my posts may fall off until I the following week.

I’m also finding that as much fun as the daily headers are, they’re getting tiresome to put together. And they aren’t even hard to do! Just kind of time-consuming, I guess. So I may rethink doing them for a bit.

But I like them. Do I like them more than I’m irritated by them, though?

Words written during an oil change are good words.

They can’t all be positive weeks, and this is not my worst week of the year. I wrote rather steadily, it felt like. It wasn’t the spectacular week I wanted to blow everyone (myself primarily) away with, but Reasons, so.

Oil Changes and Batteries

387 fiction words, 518 total words

My car has a thing to start it that isn’t quite a key but isn’t quite keyless, either. When I bought it, I read that apparently there’s a “thing” where the car just stops starting. It doesn’t turn over or anything. So I had in my head, when it started performing this way, that it was just a “thing” I was going to have to learn to work around.

My previous car had “things”. I’m proud of determining that, after filling the tank with gas (any amounts) I would need to start the vehicle without my foot on the brake but on the gas, revving it around 2K for nearly thirty seconds, and then, after making sure no humans or buildings or other vehicles were in front of me, quickly putting on the brake, throwing the car into drive, and then praying I could drive it about for a bit (occasionally taking slow tours around buildings) before having to hit the brake again. Then I was good until the next fill-up.

But today I went to get the new car an oil change at my favored service station, they did a courtesy check and sampled the battery. “It’s on the low side of good,” they said, “so unless you’re having trouble starting the car?”

Ding!

And I wrote a ton more words this morning at the shop, so I’m excited about that. Today still I hope to get the Income vs Expenses post ready. I have a bit of time, cleaning being put on hold for a bit because I’m tired of sweating.

Morning/Saturday Fun

Yes, it’s after one. It still feels like the morning to me.

Laundry – usual.

Writing – usual.

Groceries – usual (DH’s tackling this today).

I still haven’t done my Income & Expenses post for June yet, and I really want to. I hope to carve out time for it today.

I had the best, craziest dreams last night. One of them is worthy of writing up into a short story, I think. I’m looking forward to that.

For now, on with the day.

You get cat sounds tonight. My cats have been very vocal lately. I wonder if it’s the heat, or just a general desire for attention, but it’s not clear. They’re also still having fun on their brand new play place, the loveseat sofa sitting upended in my living room. It’ll go away Sunday. The bed will be here for another couple weeks, but that will give the cats new hiding spots, and that’s OK.

There are some really neat cat installations involving posts of about 1′ to 2′ that emerge from the wall horizontal to the floor and are wrapped with sisal rope. I’d like to do something like that someday.

Yesterday I struggled with writing, and I went to bed early thinking I would easily wake this morning to write. To a certain extent, this was correct. Just before 7 a.m. Elder Youth knocked firmly on my door, ripping me from my dream to let me know that something was dripping in the kitchen, and Junior Youth was “freaking out”.

Well, Junior Youth nailed it. There was water coming in the kitchen, and pots and pans were pulled out to catch it. (The house has quirks.) Elder Youth was unimpressed, but Junior Youth definitely got all the points this morning.

And tonight is starting late for my routines, but I got a lot of other things done today. (Returning the bass was not among those things, unfortunately.) All is good.

Cleaning Up

440 fiction words, 569 total words

If I never invited people over I would never get anything done.

I have a bed that made its way upstairs and a sofa that’s out of the way.

I’m returning a large string instrument tomorrow.

My car will get an oil change this weekend.

My house will get tidied.

Just sayin’.

Yesterday was good, hanging out with friends at our venue of choice. Today was fine, productive, although I can’t shake the feeling that perhaps I’ve missed something. I’ll check it out tomorrow, and it’ll be fine, too.

Beyond irritating

Writing yesterday, yes.

314 fiction words, 508 total words

Frustrations today, yes.

Forgot my computer when leaving home, went back for it. Forgot glasses, decided not to go back. Also forgot lunch, called to have person stopping at the house bring both on the way to that person’s errand. Got unintended lunch (still delicious). Got to writing group, all good, except then upon the point when I needed to get down to work, my domain decided it really wanted to show off an old domain I hadn’t let go of yet.

So I couldn’t do this. Now I’m frustrated.

Independence Day

My fingers are blue and I knew this would happen and I’m OK with it, but they’re blue. I am amused.

Happy 4th of July, people to whom this applies! (That would be me, in case there’s doubt.) We celebrated by having lunch with family and a cake that I made with Junior Youth (photo to follow). The food was good, there’s still pasta salad left (and I have a decent quantity of it – so excited!), and the cake was cake-like. There was an abundance of sprinkles.

I wrote yesterday, more than I blogged, so success.

Ish.

I’d like to say I’d do better today, but it’s not likely. I’m having fun with family, and yeah. Blue fingers. Love.

The start of the new week nearly slipped by me. I was sitting down and all like, “This’ll be fast!” And then it occurred to me that I not only need to review the week’s words but also that I forgot to do the Income & Expenses yesterday.

Oops!

So the quick bit, yesterday’s words went like so:

And they were fine. Very fine. Spread out, though. I need to work up to NaNo speeds again.

Week 27

The past week went well, as you can see! I started picking things up on Monday and kept it up all week with a little bit of a dip in the middle. I’d like a whole week of 4-digit days, please and thank you.

I don’t have much to say about last week, at this point. It was good. It needs to keep being good. I’m done with my lull, and I’m ready for action. Action. Action. (That’s a good song.)
