If you are reading this, you may know quite a fair bit about your cats. Please enjoy this selection from A Brief History of Space Cats, and the Care and Feeding Thereof by Sarah Ever. Written by the main character from Space Cats from Space, these entries form a resource for feline companions to help them ease the transition from cat “owner” to their true role as caretaker and, possibly, human slave. Please enjoy!
If you have a few moments, please allow me to brag about the brothers in my household.
They came to me as three-month-old kittens and quickly erupted into adult-sized cats. While they are still in their first year of life, it’s amazing how much they’ve grown, and how mature their mental and emotional development seems to be.
But I digress.
Inky is actually the second youngest of the brothers. He is a longhaired, mostly black cat. In brilliant daylight, however, his tabby markings can just be made out. The only area that isn’t black with natural lighting is a patch of gray on his stomach. It’s not noticeable unless he’s stretched out for a belly rub.
Inky also bears a striking resemblance to a certain black dragon character from a popular animated children’s film. I won’t mention any names, but I decided against that name because Inky has teeth.
Pinky is the youngest and is a finely striped shorthair tabby cat in shades of gray. He’s the boldest and least reserved of the brothers. He’s always willing to go first and scout for danger. He is also fiercely loyal.
Blinky is the eldest brother, and he is a true tabby with wonderfully clear stripes and bulbs of black on his light brown fur. He is also the medical officer for the team and a good one at that. He is certainly the shyest of the brothers, cautious where the others will rush in.
Clyde is the second born. A longhaired tabby, he is the largest of the four. He is irreverent, quiet, laid back, and…well, he’s Clyde. He likes what is unexpected because of everything that is expected of him. He doesn’t shirk his responsibilities, however, simply takes the path that will annoy his brothers the most.
In case you have any doubts, and if it is possible to be proud of the characters of individuals in which one had very little responsibility for, I am.
