Early hours

The day is still very young, and it has already tried to make an impression on me how it would prefer to go.

On a Saturday when I expect to be out of the house all day in my car, I have forgotten my wallet.

>.<

That is not a particular good sign, but I’ll try to get past it.

Yesterday was a very slow word day. After Thursday’s debacle of enjoying some flavored malt beverages with alcohol additives, last night was full of naps and poor decisions regarding television. My only consolation is that I’m only two episodes from the end of the show, so if I can’t manage to stop turning on the TV for Mad Men, at least the last episode is within sight.

I wrote 285 in blog words, and 61 fiction words.

As I mentioned, today I am out and about writing. I had thought about posting progress updates as the day went along in an Open Post. We’ll see how the day goes – if fiction is doing well, I may just devote my energies there.

I’m running out of interesting titles, so now you get this

Good morning! It’s Friday, a day that is virtually the weekend!

I don’t know what else to say about that, actually. Since I’ve been in “moving mode” at the office, I’ve been wearing jeans and sneakers all week. That’s a treat usually reserved for Fridays, so since I’ve already had four days of that, today doesn’t seem that special.

Huh.

Writing yesterday was restricted to the morning. I made a stab at it in the afternoon, too, but didn’t get very far. So there were 353 words of fiction, and 219 blog words between two posts.

Every day I write myself a note about the day, how the writing went, or something significant that happened in the news. Usually I write something that has happened, but in the morning yesterday my note was “picking up the pace”. Which didn’t actually happen. I changed the note to something more accurate this morning, with the hope that I can steal that note for today. I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow.

Lots and lots of Z’s

I went to bed early last night, at 7:30 p.m. I wasn’t especially sleepy, but my body was tired. I calculated it out and decided if I woke up in the night around 4 a.m. I could declare victory and get up to write, or whatever I wanted.

I woke at 4:12 a.m., but that’s not how sleep works for me. I went back to bed, heard my 5 a.m. alarm and put it to sleep, and then woke up at my usual, “Can’t go back to bed now” 6 a.m. alarm. Ah, well. The sleep was good, and I can’t complain about that.

As a result of the Moving of Large Items that occurred yesterday, I only wrote a little, just enough to keep a streak going. I wrote 139 fiction words. Blog words, though, because I did a month-end review post, came in at 565 words.

I’ve got Pandora playing on the television, and I suppose I’m ready to start the day. I guess.

Bleh. 😉

January Review

Had I thought of this idea this morning, I would have made my morning post a monthly summary. But I didn’t, and I don’t want to wait until tomorrow to get it done.

January was amazing for me with my writing! I wrote 18,615 words during January. It’s not NaNoWriMo level, but I feel good about these words. I don’t feel like there are huge chunks that are awful because I already took those out.

And though I had some very slow writing days, my average was about 600 words per day. Not what I want, but better than I managed any other month last year, I’m sure. With one possible exception. I could go and look, and I may at some point. But not tonight.

I blogged a lot, too. With an average of 289 blog words per day, I came in at a total of 8,960. I didn’t miss a day (I sort of missed a photo challenge day, but not really), and I feel good about that streak as well.

My goal for January was (vaguely) to finish Space Cats from Space Earth. That didn’t happen. I’m about 1/3 of the way through it at this point, I believe, and I’m started to get people in trouble. It feels like it’s picking up speed, too. I hope.

I also wanted to be writing at pulp speed – about 2,750 words per day. That did not happen. I will have to really pick it up to get to that average. I think, realistically, with my office job I will aim instead for a February average of 1,500 words per day. I will get up to the higher number in March when several other things in Life have settled down.

So January is over, and February is definitely here. I’m heading to bed early tonight to recover from today, and hopefully get a lot done tomorrow.

See you then!

Waking early? I tried

I heard my 5 a.m. alarm this morning at least. Then I dove back to sleep, encountering a dream about Japan, my parents, a couple coworkers (current and former), and a film. In my dream, we went to see a movie, and I got separated from my parents (who had just moved there) while looking for bread, and then I found my former coworker, and I stood to see the movie. It was…very strange. Thankfully, my 6 a.m. alarm saved me from any more of it.

Yesterday was writing group (yay!), the moving of desks (several of which decided to detach themselves from other parts of themselves), and the moving of boxes (at least 100 of them which were thankfully very light). I hit my step goal for the second day in a row, and I felt good about that.

I wrote 224 blog words, and 238 blog words. I will probably end up scrapping most of the words from yesterday in a cycle back to clean things up, but thankfully there weren’t a lot of them.

This morning there is the removal of a desk (a small computer one, thankfully) to accomplish before the people capable of helping me move it are gone for the day. I’d better get cracking.
